Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle mistakes Duke’s Paolo Banchero for Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes during chaotic F1 Miami pre-race grid walk

There was a small case of mistaken identity in Miami on Sunday.

Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle is noted for his famed pre-race grid walks before Formula 1 GPs: Often times they are equal parts chaotic and hilarious, and Sunday’s grid walk was no exception.

The inaugural Miami Grand Prix on Sunday played host to some of American sports’ greatest athletes: Tennis star Serena Williams, socialite Paris Hilton, basketball legends Michael Jordan and Dwyane Wade and, of course, superstar Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Brundle caught up with Patrick Mahomes before the start of the race to catch his thoughts on the race:

*In the finest Fred voice from “Scooby Doo”*

Oh … Wait a minute! That’s not Patrick Mahomes! That’s Duke Blue Devils basketball star Paolo Banchero!

Thankfully, Brundle did catch up with some athletes he did recognize, including an elusive soccer legend David Beckham to close out his walk.

With F1 coming to the United States later in the year for their second grand prix of 2022 and coming to Las Vegas for a third GP in 2023, Brundle should catch up on some “SportsCenter” to make sure a mix-up of this nature doesn’t happen again.
