It might have taken them two overtimes and a lot of hand-wringing to get there, but in the end the Dallas Stars were able to prolong the Stanley Cup Finals thanks to a 3-2 double overtime win on Saturday night over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 5. Corey Perry began the night well for Dallas with the lone goal of the first period, but it was canceled out in the second by Ondrej Palat.
Mikhail Sergachev then gave Tampa the lead in the third, and it looked like they would be hoisting the Cup until Stars veteran Joe Pavelski struck to tie it up and force OT. Once there, the Stars hung on in the first OT period as the Lightning peppered their goal. It would come back to bite them at the end, though, as Perry found the net in the second OT period to hand them a win that keeps the series going a couple more days.
