The look of the NFL’s games might be different, but at least we have the first full week of action in the books following the first edition of Monday Night Football. Two games took place, as is the norm of late for the opening week, and they saw the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tennessee Titans start off with victories. The Steelers saw off the New York Giants 26-16 as Ben Roethlisberger returned to action with a solid enough performance. While he was far from spectacular, relying upon great defense, he was 21-32 for 229 yards and three touchdowns.

Running back Benny Snell, Jr. also had a big night, rushing for over 100 yards on 19 carries. The Giants quarterback, Daniel Jones, struggled with two interceptions as well as two TD’s in the outing. In the night cap, it was the Titans that overcame the Denver Broncos by the low score of 16-14. It was truly a case of the kicker dominating the action, however, as Stephen Gostkowski’s performance will be remembered for ages. He missed four kicks on the evening, yes four, yet somehow he played the role of hero later on to make up for it and redeem himself. It’s rare for sure, but it shows that the Titans could have comfortably led had he not missed that many to begin with. Derrick Henry had over 100 yards on the ground for the Titans as they grinded this one out on the road to begin 1-0 on the season.
