Texans Release Watt By Request
It could be seen as both a surprise and a certainty to see JJ Watt leaving the Houston Texans. On one hand, you got the feeling the relationship would never end. But on the other, you got the feeling that it would have to end simply because the team were no longer a true contender in the eyes of most. On Friday, we got some clarity as Watt announced that he would be leaving the team after ten years.
In those ten years, the game-changing defensive end won Defensive Player of the Year three times and became a staple of the community in Houston and Texas in general. Watt enjoyed only his second full 16-game season since 2015 this past year, though the Texans were far from relevant in the hunt. Now, attention is likely to shift toward Deshaun Watson and his stay with the team. He’s not been happy with management for some time now, and with Watt leaving, that is surely not set to change anytime soon. Watt’s brothers- TJ and Derek- both play for the Pittsburgh Steelers, so that is thought to be one potential landing spot for the D-end.
