After two very solid, if not spectacular, rounds to open the week, Collin Morikawa erred a little on Saturday, allowing Justin Thomas to flex his muscles and lead after the third round. Thomas finished the round at a -16 total after he shot a -6 66 on the day.
For the first 54 holes, he has yet to make a bogey, making it extremely difficult to bet against him come Sunday’s final round. If he can stay the course and add a few birdies, the win is virtually his. Two shots behind him will be Viktor Hovland of Norway, who continues to contend in tournaments and will hope his day finally comes. Morikawa, who suffered a lot on the day, only came out at even par, so he actually went backwards relatively speaking. Still yet, he’s just three strokes back and still in with a chance on Sunday in the penultimate group.
