Tiger-Phil Reportedly Set for Thanksgiving Weekend
A couple of months ago, news came down that a long hypothesized fantasy match up pitting Tiger Wood and Phil Mickelson was closer to happening than we could have imagined. Both golfers would go on to confirm the plans, and the stakes were raised when it was announced that they would be playing each other in a winner-take-all match for the sum of $10 million. Now, those plans are getting ever closer to becoming a reality.
On Wednesday, we learned from Tiger that it was indeed closer to happening that it ever had, and that we would be getting news of a date before too long. And now it looks like we have just that. According to sources, the event will take place on just about the perfect holiday weekend: Thanksgiving. The exact date hasn’t been nailed down yet, but it is believed that it will either be the Friday or Saturday after Turkey Day. And the rumored course will be in Las Vegas.
Of course, either day would do very well in the ratings, but which would be the best? Friday is usually sparse with a couple of college football games that aren’t typically all that exciting. So, we could be looking at that day. It would no doubt give the chance for millions of viewers to watch together with their families and take a side as the two most popular golfers (not much of an argument there yet) face off with one another.
The best case scenario would be to have the two with live microphones. Don’t know how close to reality that could be, but it would be fascinating to see the two men squirm as they nearly lose $5 million out of their pockets. Sponsors may get involved to soften that blow, but the cold hard fact is that one of the men will lose, and it will not sit well with them to give up that kind of money to another man. As Phil said, neither man will be in their comfort zone when this off tees off.
