The Atlanta Falcons have not had their all-time best season so far this year. With that being said, they got a second win of 2020 on Thursday Night Football as they downed NFC South foes Carolina by a 25-17 score line that caused Matt Ryan to express some hope in the team down the stretch following the result.
The aforementioned quarterback was far from brilliant, but he was good enough, throwing for 281 yards and rushing for a touchdown (he also threw an interception). The Panthers’ opposite number, Teddy Bridgewater, was more inconsistent, completing 15 of 23 passes for 176 yards as well as one TD and one INT. With Atlanta up 19-17 in the fourth quarter, it was running back Todd Gurley that iced the contest, running in from three yards out to make it 25-17 with 11 minutes to go. Despite a missed PAT that didn’t prove to be too costly, they won the game and moved up to 2-6. Still an awful long way from a potential playoff spot, but definite progress considering the loss in Carolina a few weeks back.
