Life is hard, trust us, we know. It has a way of sneaking up on you when you are least expecting it and taking you out at the knees. What’s worse, is that it doesn’t seem to care that you’ve already been knocked to the ground, it will rub dirt in your face anyway.
To the girl who feels like she’s lost herself:
You aren’t lost, your spirit is just buried under the weight of your circumstances. Your light is not out, life has just pushed down hard on your dimmer switch. Through this difficult time in your life, you may be wondering what you did to deserve this. Why is all of this happening to you? Will this rock in the bottom of your stomach, this lump in your throat, and this cloud in your heart ever go away?
To the girl who is not sure if she will ever be happy again:
You will. This empty feeling is not forever. They say that time heals all wounds, but that’s just the thing – it takes time. Whether you’ve lost a loved one, been betrayed by someone you trusted, was let go at work, or are going through a breakup, these will one day be a part of your distant past.
This doesn’t mean you will forget these people or uncertain times in your life, it just means their grip on your soul will loosen. You will take the lessons you need and carry these through onto the next phase in your life. It’s hard to see right now, but these bad experiences and difficult times may be necessary to lead you to something amazing in the future. You must stay strong now.
To the girl who feels stuck:
Take a look back and see how far you’ve come. Through the ups and downs you’ve experienced in your life, you’ve grown. Don’t let fear paralyze you. Don’t let others negative thoughts and opinions control your own or prevent you from taking action. Make moves, take risks, now is the time because you’ve got nothing to lose.
To the girl who feels scorned by life:
Don’t allow negative people or experiences to make you cold and hard. Instead, take them as examples of how you will never want to treat others. Be kind when others were mean, be bold when others were weak, be loyal when others unfaithful, and be compassionate when others were cruel.
To the girl who feels as though her spark is gone:
Your light will come back to you. Take this time to focus on self-care. Do what makes you happy, calm, and relaxed. Explore new hobbies, meet new people, read a good book. Get out into nature, allow yourself time to think, feel, and breathe.
Now is the perfect time to let go of every person, thing, and the situations in your life that are preventing you from reaching your potential and being truly happy.
Take advantage of what’s available to you:
There are many avenues you can take in order to rebuild your sense of self:
- See a therapist
- Use self-help apps and online therapy
- Learn to meditate
- Hire a career counselor
- Read books about women who inspire you, or that help you work through your inner demons
- Take up an active hobby that gets you outside, such as walking, jogging, or hiking
- Learn something new: an instrument, a language, how to draw or paint
You are still there. Give yourself a little grace and allow your beautiful soul to come out of hiding again and hit your own reset button. Little by little, as the clouds in your mind clear and the darkness in your heart lifts, you will feel like you again. Only this time, you will be stronger, wiser, and more incredible than you ever could have imagined yourself to be.
