MANILA, Philippines–La Salle snapped its losing skid in dramatic fashion Saturday night, outlasting University of Santo Tomas in a five-set thriller, 15-25, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20, 16-14, in UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Angel Canino showed the way with 27 points, including 24 attacks, as the Lady Spikers finally got one over their longtime tormentors.
Canino, who played through pain after a collision with teammate Shevana Laput, also tallied 13 digs and 13 receptions before being taken to a hospital post-game.

“We kept telling the girls to want this, to fight until the end,” La Salle assistant Noel Orcullo said in Filipino.
Laput added 16 points and four digs, while Lyka de Leon held the fort with 23 receptions and nine digs.
UST, which had La Salle’s number since Season 85, appeared on its way to another victory behind Reg Jurado and Cassi Carballo but faltered late, absorbing its fourth loss in nine games.
Now riding a three-game winning streak (6-3), La Salle eyes another key win against rival Ateneo (4-5) on Wednesday.
