Uber, Office Depot Team Up to Deliver School, Work Supplies

Uber and Office Depot have teamed up to deliver business, office, and school essentials.

More than 900 Office Depot and OfficeMax stores are joining the Uber Eats platform, so people can place an order for back-to-school or home office essentials like toner, backpacks, or binders and have it delivered by an Uber Eats driver. (Or maybe a robot?)

“We know this is the busiest time of the year for many, with back-to-school and even going back to the office,” Christian Freese, head of New Verticals for Uber Eats in the US and Canada, said in a statement. “Whether it’s a printer paper shortage or a school project glue stick emergency, Uber Eats customers can find what they need to handle any business or school supply need with Office Depot on the platform.”

Uber One (formerly Uber Eats Pass) members are exempt from delivery fees, and get a 5% discount on all Office Depot orders of $15 or more.

Uber isn’t the only delivery platform looking to diversify. Drivers for rival DoorDash are now ferrying items purchased from Facebook Marketplace in a partnership with Meta. The deal, as reported by The Wall Street Journal(Opens in a new window), aims to attract more people (particularly younger users) to Facebook and help DoorDash expand beyond food distribution.

The firms have tested their service in “several” US cities, promising deliveries of new and used items that fit in a car trunk and are no more than 15 miles away within 48 hours.
