The UFC is a strange, strange world, isn’t it? In no other sport do you see the stories you get from it. Kamaru Usman was always supposed to face off against Jorge Masvidal in the July main event. However, Masvidal and the UFC couldn’t come up with a deal, and instead Usman was set to take on former training partner Gilbert Burns.
In a twist of fate, however, Burns tested positive for Covid-19 and had to be pulled. On Monday, it was announced that Jorge Masvidal would be his replacement, shocking the world a bit as the two sides had come to an agreement. The bout will be for the Welterweight title and will take place at ‘Fight Island,’ the mysterious venue that Dana White had teased that is located on a remote island in Abu Dhabi. Masvidal was ready, as he has been in training mode despite not having a fight scheduled, and the champion Usman, though technically unprepared for the specific threat of Masvidal, is in shape and ready to go. It will be rather interesting if it does indeed come to fruition, as both still have Covid hurdles to jump over.
