Voit Makes History As Yankees Record Win

The New York Yankees, in case you have missed it, are not doing so well. They are, in fact, in a battle at the moment with the Baltimore Orioles, whom they faced on Saturday, for a spot in the playoffs. And while that battle will continue for a bit longer, it must be said that their 2-1 win on the day with help ease some of those fears and worries.

Daily Herald

The Yankees are now 25-21 and the Orioles are the inverse at 21-25, giving them some much-needed breathing room. The Yankees have generally kicked the Orioles around in recent years, but that all changed during this one. They had to rely on history being made by Luke Voit here. He became the first player to ever lead off any inning and walk-off with a sacrifice fly. DJ Lemahieu started the bottom of the tenth on second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. That gave Voit the opportunity to drive him in, which he did, giving the Yankees the win and that breathing room mentioned before. Strange, strange times, aren’t they?
