Washington Ends Steelers Winning Streak

The Pittsburgh Steelers hadn’t always made it look easy over the course of running up an 11-0 record ahead of their game on Monday. But they just kept figuring out ways to win. Before this game with the Washington Football Team, as they are so affectionately known as now, that is. The loss ended their winning run and demoted them to 11-1 on the season thanks to a stunning 23-17 victory for Washington. It was all set up by a tremendous fourth quarter in which Washington truly dominated.

Hogs Haven

The Steelers scored first in it, via a Matthew Wright field goal just three seconds in, but from there Washington took control. They saw Alex Smith, who had 296 yards on the evening, with 98 of those coming from Logan Thomas on nine receptions, lead them down the field for a touchdown to tie it up at 17. From there, two 45-yard field goals from Dustin Hopkins in the last 127 seconds of the game allowed them to improve to 5-7 on the season. That’s good enough for them to go back into a tie with the New York Giants for first in the NFC East, while the loss means the Steelers now have to look over their shoulders as the surging Kansas City Chiefs will be pressuring them for the AFC’s top seed.
