The Chicago White Sox have decided to turn the clock back with their newest manager. Their choice is 76 year-old Tony La Russa, as it was announced on Thursday that the three-time World Series-winning manager would be taking over the hot seat for the club. It’s a return for the pair, as he began his managerial tenure with them over four decades ago now.

The main issue could prove to be that he has not been in the dugout in nine years, so it will be interesting to see how this turns out. One of the candidates he, reportedly, beat out is said to be closing in on a deal as well. AJ Hinch, who spent 2020 suspended for his role in the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal, is said to be close to a deal with the Detroit Tigers. Hinch has big-time experience, while the Tigers clearly need a big-time manager to right their ship. They’ve been irrelevant for years now, so this could be just the move that helps take them out of the cellar and into more rarefied air.
