After three rounds of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, you expected a leader to emerge, and possibly a strong favorite to win the entire thing. Most of us would have expected Bryson DeChambeau or Webb Simpson to make that strong move to the top, but instead it was young gun Matthew Wolff that grabbed the headlines, shooting an -8 64, for the second straight day, to go to -19 overall and take a three-stroke lead into Sunday’s fourth and final round.
Citing an ice cream truck as motivation, Wolff sunk nine total birdies as he opened up that advantage over nearest chasers DeChambeau and Ryan Armour. Both of that pair shot 67s on the day, allowing Wolff to have a reasonable lead come Sunday despite making three bogeys (as well as an eagle) during his round. The 21-year old will be hunting his second career victory on Sunday.
