The 2020 Major League Baseball season is finally underway, with Thursday night being the kickoff of the new season. The slate of games was small- just two- but it featured some of the biggest teams in the game. First up was the New York Yankees traveling to face defending World Series champion Washington.
The Nationals had ace Max Scherzer on the mound, but he would run into an in-form Giancarlo Stanton, who ultimately propelled the Bronx Bombers to victory. He smashed a two-run homer in the top of the first and then singled in the fifth. They led 4-1 in the top of the sixth when it began to storm, and the game never got back going. In the night cap, the Los Angeles Dodgers, perennial contenders for the World Series, kicked off their season at home against the San Francisco Giants. And it was the Kike Hernandez show as they trounced their NL West rivals by a score of 8-1. He had a two-run home run to go along with five total RBI as they came back from a 1-0 deficit to easily pull away down the stretch. The Dodgers plated seven runs from the seventh inning on, showcasing just how good their lineup is when it is clutch time.
