In front of nearly 80,000 fans in Mexico City, the 49ers were magnífico on “Monday Night Football.”
Jimmy Garoppolo’s fantastic night, along with a stifling defensive performance, led San Francisco (6-4) to a dominant 38-10 win over the Cardinals at Estadio Azteca. It was the team’s third straight victory, vaulting it into first place in the NFC West.
Garoppolo turned in what was likely his best performance of the season, finishing 20 of 29 with 228 YDs, 4 TDs, 0 interceptions and a passer rating of 131.9. George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk both caught a pair of touchdown passes, and Christian McCaffrey chipped in with 106 total yards from scrimmage.

The Cardinals (4-7) kept it close in the first half, but fell apart in the second. Colt McCoy was serviceable as he deputized for the injured Kyler Murray for the second week in a row, but the offense was held scoreless in the second half as the Niners took over on both sides of the ball. It continues a miserable season for Cliff Kingsbury’s squad, and any lingering hopes of a playoff spot are quickly fading away.
For the 49ers, it cements their status as legitimate threats in the NFC. Next up for them is a date with the Saints at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday.

All times Eastern.
11:15 p.m. FINAL — That’s a wrap. The 49ers rout the Cardinals in Mexico City to move to 6-4 on the season.
11:09 p.m. INTERCEPTION — McSorely throws it directly (and I mean directly) to 49ers defender Samuel Womack, who makes the easy interception.
The reign of #MACtion rookies in November continues with former Toledo Rocket Samuel Womack intercepting a pass in the red zone.

11:05 p.m. — Both teams have basically thrown in the towel at this point. The game is full of backups now, and this one is going to end with a dominant victory for San Francisco.
11:01 p.m. — Arizona is forced to punt it away again. Brock Purdy, this year’s “Mr. Irrelevant” in the NFL Draft, has now entered the game at quarterback for the 49ers.
10:59 p.m. — Dre Greenlaw just went out injured for San Francisco. The linebacker appeared to be holding his wrist. Despite the (presumed) win, this has been a bit of a tough night on the injury front for the Niners’ defense.
10:56 p.m. — Colt McCoy’s night is done. Trace McSorely has entered the game at quarterback for Arizona.
49ers 38, Cardinals 10
10:52 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Kittle again! He makes the catch and tightropes down the left sideline for HIS second score of the night! This has turned into a blowout in Mexico City.

10:50 p.m. — Garoppolo starts another drive with excellent field position, and on 3rd and 2 he finds Deebo for a first down gain. Samuel went straight to the sideline and laid flat on his back after that play. He looks exhausted.
10:46 p.m. TURNOVER ON DOWNS — McCoy’s pass gets knocked down, and the 49ers take over again! Their defense has been stifling in this second half.
10:45 p.m. — McCoy runs for his life as a pack of 49ers descend on him, and he can’t get away as he’s tripped up for a big loss. A screen to Dortch makes it 4th and 4, and the Cardinals will go for it again.
End of third quarter: 49ers 31, Cardinals 10
10:41 p.m. — The quarter ends with a false start on the Cardinals. They need a miracle at this point.
49ers 31, Cardinals 10
10:36 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Aiyuk has his second of the night! That puts the Niners firmly in the driver’s seat with the third quarter winding down!
Garoppolo to Aiyuk for the second time tonight!

10:30 p.m. — San Francisco has great field position to start the drive inside Arizona territory, and Mitchell quickly takes advantage with a 19-yard carry. The 49ers are running this Cardinals defense ragged in the second half.
10:28 p.m. — Kevin Givens comes flying into the backfield and drops McCoy for a huge sack on 2nd down! After a short pass on 3rd and long comes up well short of the marker, the Cardinals have to give the ball right back.
Oye McCoy, ¡dice Kevin Givens que bajaaaaaaaannnnnn! 💪😤

10:23 p.m. — A holding penalty puts Garoppolo and his offense behind the 8-ball on the ensuing drive. On 3rd and 13, a pass to Aiyuk gets broken up to finally give the Cardinals a stop. The 49ers will punt it away.
10:19 p.m. TURNOVER ON DOWNS — McCoy and Dortch weren’t on the same page, and the pass falls incomplete to give the Niners the ball back!
10:18 p.m. — After a deep pass to Hopkins gets broken up, it’s 4th and 3 for Arizona from around the San Francisco 40-yard line. As they often do, it looks like the Cardinals will go for this on 4th down.
10:17 p.m. — 49ers safety Jimmie Ward has to go off injured after a short pass to Dortch. We’ll see if he returns.
10:14 p.m. — Conner starts the Cardinals’ drive with a nice 14-yard run to the left sideline. A few plays later, McCoy connects with Hopkins to move the chains on 3rd and 7. Good start to the half for Arizona’s offense.
10:11 p.m. — Deebo was getting some oxygen on the sideline after that run. The altitude really does make a difference at 7,200 feet up.
49ers 24, Cardinals 10
10:07 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Deebo gets a pitch in the backfield, and he shows off the wheels down the left sideline to take it all the way to the house for a 39-yard touchdown! What a start to the half for the Niners!

10:05 p.m. — Mitchell is getting more work already on this drive, and he’s making the most of it. Already a few nice gains by the running back to move the ball across midfield.
10:02 p.m. START OF SECOND HALF — The 49ers get the kickoff and they’ll try to keep their offense rolling to start this half.
End of first half: 49ers 17, Cardinals 10
9:42 p.m. — Nick Bosa sacks McCoy for a big loss, and that will end the half. The 49ers will get the ball first when play resumes.
49ers 17, Cardinals 10
9:39 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Gould knocks it through and the lead is back to 7 for San Francisco.
9:38 p.m. — This time, the Niners can’t convert. Garoppolo’s pass for Deebo is too low, and Robbie Gould trots on to attempt a mid-range field goal.
9:37 p.m. — Good news for Arizona: Simmons has checked back into the game. Deebo makes a short catch, then after an incompletion it’s 3rd and 6 once again.
9:35 p.m. — On 3rd and 6, McCaffrey lines up wide to the right and makes a catch on a slant route to pick up another first down. He’s everywhere right now.
9:33 p.m. — A Garoppolo pass intended for Deebo on 2nd down gets broken up by Isaiah Simmons. Unfortunately, the Cardinals’ linebacker was injured on the play and it looks fairly serious. His right shoulder took a big blow.
9:31 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — Elijah Mitchell, San Francisco’s other running back, finally gets the ball on a short run to the right side. That’ll take us to the two-minute warning, with the Niners threatening to extend their lead.
9:29 p.m. — The 49ers get the ball back and go right back to work, with Garoppolo finding McCaffrey on back to back tosses to quickly move into Arizona territory. McCaffrey has added a whole new element to this offense.
49ers 14, Cardinals 10
9:24 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Conner muscles his way into the end zone from two yards out for Arizona’s first touchdown of the evening!
James Conner too strong!

9:23 p.m. — Hopkins makes yet another catch, then Dortch comes up with another grab to set up 1st and goal for the Cardinals.
9:19 p.m. — The Cardinals start their drive with a few medium gains, then out of nowhere a pass short left to Greg Dortch turns into a huge play after the receiver shows off his speed! That takes Arizona all the way down to the 49ers’ 13-yard line!

9:13 p.m. — Garoppolo passes short right to Kittle for a gain of 7 to start the drive, but an incompletion on the next play sets up 3rd and 3.
9:10 p.m. INTERCEPTION — McCoy looks to throw over the middle to Conner, but it goes off the running back’s hands and gets picked off by Jimmie Ward on the deflection! Great play!

9:06 p.m. — The Cardinals go right back to Hopkins on another 3rd down and he delivers with another first down gain. However, after the play, he gets called for a taunting penalty to back the ball up 15 yards. That was another strange call, it wasn’t exactly an over-the-top celebration…

9:04 p.m. — On 3rd and 4, McCoy throws a beauty down the left sideline to Hopkins, who gets both feet down for a gain of 16.
49ers 7, Cardinals 3
8:57 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Facing 3rd and 5 from inside the 10-yard line, Garoppolo zips it into a tight window to Brandon Aiyuk for the first touchdown of the night! Great throw and catch there.

End of first quarter: Cardinals 3, 49ers 0
8:53 p.m. — Garoppolo hits Deebo over the middle, who surges forward for a gain of 20 yards to end the first quarter. It’ll be 49ers ball near the Arizona 30-yard line.
8:52 p.m. — McCaffrey charges ahead for a gain of 5, and a facemask penalty on the Cardinals will add 15 yards to the end of the run. That was a really bad call. The defender didn’t even touch his facemask, he was just grabbing his shoulder pad.
8:51 p.m. — On 3rd and 5, the 49ers finally convert after Garoppolo hits Kittle for a gain of 6. That’s the first 3rd down conversion of the night for San Francisco.
8:47 p.m. — After a couple of short passes, it’s 3rd and 3. McCoy drops back and looks short right for Conner, but he drops the pass and a 49ers defender was charging in to take him down anyways. We have another punt, and this game already looks like it’ll be a defensive battle.
8:45 p.m. — On 3rd and short, Conner leaps over the pile to move the chains.
8:43 p.m. — Cardinals receiver Rondale Moore has picked up a groin injury and is questionable to return. Another big loss for an offense that’s already pretty thin due to injuries.
8:41 p.m. — For the second time in a row, the 49ers do a great job on special teams to down the punt near the goal line. The crowd in Mexico City is loving that.

8:39 p.m. — After two more short gains by McCaffrey, the Niners face 3rd and 2. They had it off to Deebo on a jet sweep, but the Cardinals are all over it and they shove him out of bounds short of the line to gain! This will be another punt for Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
8:38 p.m. — San Francisco gets the ball back, and on the first play of the drive McCaffrey makes a catch for a gain of 11 yards to move the chains.
Cardinals 3, 49ers 0
8:33 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Despite the rain drops, Prater’s kick sneaks inside the left upright to give Arizona an early lead.

8:32 p.m. — Another incompletion brings up 4th down, and Matt Prater will come out for a field goal try.
8:31 p.m. — McCoy takes a deep shot to the end zone, but it’s just out of the reach of tight end Stephen Anderson. Niners corner Charvarius Ward looks like he may have been out of breath after that play, could be the altitude already having an impact.
8:29 p.m. — After Hopkins makes another catch for a solid gain, James Conner catches a short pass and rumbles for a gain of 8. The Cardinals have the football around the Niners’ 30-yard line.
8:28 p.m. — Facing another 3rd down, this time McCoy makes a nice throw to Hopkins for a gain of 17 yards. That could help kickstart this offense.
8:21 p.m. — Christian McCaffrey runs for a short gain on 1st down, then Garoppolo’s first pass of the night falls incomplete. On 3rd and 8, Garoppolo goes deep left for receiver Jauan Jennings, but he tripped over his own feet and that’ll fall incomplete as well. The night begins with back-to-back three-and-outs.
8:18 p.m. — Terrible start to the night for Arizona. An opening sweep play gets blown up for a big loss, then after a short catch by DeAndre Hopkins , a McCoy incompletion brings up 4th and 10. Punt upcoming.
8:16 p.m. — We are underway, with the Niners kicking off first to the Cardinals’ offense.
8:15 p.m. — Right on the stroke of kickoff, the rain has started to really come down. Just a reminder, Estadio Azteca is situated at a whopping 7,200 feet above sea level. The air is thinner, and that’ll probably result in some more tired than usual players.
8:11 p.m. — It’s a cool and rainy night in Mexico’s capital city. Kickoff is drawing closer for this NFC West battle.
8:10 p.m. — Compare that to the reaction the Niners got… Their fans travel well.

What time is the NFL game tonight?

- Time: 8:15 p.m. ET (7:15 p.m. CT | 6:15 p.m. MT | 5:15 p.m. PT)
