The only rematch of the College Football Playoff quarterfinals is the final game on New Year’s Day.
Georgia beat Ole Miss 43-35 on Oct. 18 as the Bulldogs’ defense came through in the fourth quarter after getting rolled by the Ole Miss offense for much of the day. Can Georgia do it again in New Orleans? Or will Ole Miss be just one win away from a spot in the national title game after Lane Kiffin’s departure?

No. 3 Georgia vs. No. 6 Ole Miss (8 ET, ESPN)
The SEC champions are on a nine-game win streak after losing to Alabama on Sept. 27. The 35 points Georgia gave up in the last matchup with Ole Miss is more than the Bulldogs have allowed in their last four games combined, too.
The Rebels made easy work of Tulane in the first round of the playoff. Since losing to Georgia, Ole Miss has had one close game. That came at Oklahoma in a 34-26 win. The Rebels’ defense hasn’t allowed more than the 26 points it gave up against the Sooners since that Georgia loss either. Can Pete Golding’s unit keep Georgia in check this time?

In a lower-scoring game, the onus is going to be on the Ole Miss defense to pull its weight. And it didn’t do that against the Bulldogs earlier this season. If Bulldogs QB Gunner Stockton gets cooking again, Georgia won’t likely need a strong fourth quarter to beat Ole Miss.

The 12 points Ole Miss has scored is already the most Georgia has allowed since Nov. 8 against Mississippi State. Can the Rebels make up what’s suddenly a two-score deficit?

Gunner Stockton plows forward for a 1-yard TD on a keeper to cap an impressive drive that included a key 3rd-and-12 conversion to Cash Jones one play earlier. Both offenses have come alive as the Bulldogs take the lead again.

The Bulldogs absolutely controlled the line of scrimmage. If that continues, Ole Miss is in trouble.

Neither defense could do anything early when these two teams played in the regular season.
Bettors are expecting a game with far more punts. The total opened at 56.5 points and dropped by three before kickoff to 53.5. Remember, Georgia won the regular-season contest 43-35.

Lane Kiffin is no longer coaching Ole Miss. He won’t be on the sideline for today’s game. So why is everyone still talking about him?
