OpenAssets, a digital asset infrastructure provider, announced the launch of OpenAgent, a transfer agent registered with the U.S. SEC and built for tokenized securities. The new entity is designed to manage shareholder records for blockchain-based securities in line with updated regulatory guidance.
The move follows recent clarification from the SEC allowing transfer agents to maintain certain records on-chain for tokenized securities. The guidance opens the door for digital assets to function within existing legal frameworks.
OpenAgent operates on OpenAssets’ internal architecture and connects with existing custody, clearing, and settlement systems. The transfer agent will service tokenized equities, fund shares, alternative assets, digital currencies and other regulated instruments that require formal shareholder administration.
According to OpenAssets, the registration supports broader adoption of tokenized markets by aligning blockchain infrastructure with established compliance standards.
