Heads up, fashionistas and movie buffs! The highly anticipated sequel, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2,’ is hitting theaters, bringing back our favorite cutthroat world of high fashion. While audiences are hyped to see a parade of ‘dope’ celebrity cameos from Lady Gaga to Naomi Campbell, there’s also been some buzz, ‘no cap,’ about some major cut cameos that didn’t make the final edit. It’s a total bummer, for real, to hear some awesome scenes got left on the cutting room floor, but hey, that’s showbiz for ya.
One of the most talked-about absences is ‘Euphoria’ breakout star Sydney Sweeney. She actually filmed a three-minute scene early in the movie, where Emily Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton, now running Dior’s U.S. operations, was dressing her for an event. According to insiders, the scene just didn’t structurally jive with the flow of the opening sequence. While it was a tough call for the production team, Sweeney herself has been super busy, crushing it with her role in the long-awaited third season of ‘Euphoria,’ so she’s definitely not hurting for screen time.
Another character who didn’t quite make the cut was Conrad Ricamora, known for ‘How to Get Away With Murder.’ He was cast as Andy’s roommate, a detail that apparently raised some eyebrows during test screenings. Audiences were apparently scratching their heads, wondering why Andy, a seemingly successful editor, would even need a roommate at all. The filmmakers pivoted, choosing instead to lean into Andy spending more time at Tracie Thoms’ character’s place, a dynamic that felt more ‘on point’ with the original 2006 film’s vibe and character relationships.
Then there’s the legendary Anna Wintour herself, the high priestess of fashion. Despite internet whispers and a sly ‘that’s for you to find out’ comment from Wintour, her much-anticipated cameo was a bit of a mixed bag. She did visit the Milan set, and director David Frankel actually captured her in what he called a ‘gag take.’ The catch? Wintour, being Wintour, got ahead of her cue, leaving the shot partially out of focus. That scene is now slated for a bonus feature on streaming, which is lowkey a ‘fire’ addition for the super fans.
But Wintour’s influence wasn’t just about trying to hit her mark on screen; her impact behind the camera was legit. While observing a scene set in the fictional Dior offices, she immediately noticed a flaw: too many flowers, and they were too pink. She straight up informed the crew that Dior would only ever feature white flowers. And ‘periodt,’ those blooms were swiftly swapped out. Her keen eye ensured the film maintained an authentic fashion industry aesthetic, proving her power extends far beyond the pages of Vogue.
And for those ‘Digital Fandoms’ buzzing about Jessica Chastain, ‘my bad,’ but those rumors were totally unfounded. She was seen in New York City during principal photography, leading to a frenzy of online chatter, but she never actually filmed a scene. So, unfortunately, fans hoping to catch the Oscar winner in the sequel will have to wait for her next big project. ‘No worries,’ though, the film is still packed with enough glam and drama to make it a ‘sick’ watch.
