Tesla Cybertruck drivers could finally get the over-the-air update they’ve been waiting for this month—Full Self-Driving (FSD).
The pickup truck is Tesla’s newest passenger vehicle, its most expensive ($80,000—$100,000), and the only one without autonomous driving technology.
The Cybertruck’s FSD timeline has been steadily pushed back (much like the launch of the Cybertruck itself). CEO Elon Musk initially expected it to be available in June and then pushed the timeline back to August, Teslarati reports. It’s now expected in September, according to a release roadmap posted on X by the Tesla AI team.

As many as 30,000 Cybertruck drivers have already paid $12,000 for FSD and have been waiting to receive it since the first deliveries went out in November, according to Autoevolution. In April, Tesla dropped the price to $8,000 without refunding customers the difference.
The Cybertruck’s unique shape and camera positioning could be why it is incompatible with existing FSD technology. Tesla may also lack training data on pickup trucks.
Other items on the Tesla AI roadmap include two features released this week. The first is the 12.5.2 version of FSD, which Tesla says increases the miles between driver interventions. The second is an improved Smart Summon feature, dubbed Actually Smart Summon. It enables the vehicle to drive itself to its driver or a spot of their choosing and was also delayed at least two years, according to Electrek.

FSD is also scheduled to launch in Europe and China in Q1 2025, though Tesla notes that those launches are “pending regulatory approval.”
Tesla will reveal its robotaxi prototype on Oct. 10, pushed back from Aug. 8 and also pending regulatory approval in the US. Musk has said his company can “solve autonomous driving” and recently reoriented the company around its AI products.
