MANILA, Philippines — Capital1 rookies Leila Cruz and Roma Mae Doromal brought their A-game against the undermanned but seasoned Chery Tiggo in their 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference campaign opener.
Cruz, the No.2 overall pick of Capital1, unleashed a career-high 20 points including five blocks and tallied 16 digs but it went for naught as they blew a 2-1 match lead and fell to a 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 18-25, 11-15 defeat to Chery Tiggo on Tuesday evening at Philsports Arena.
Cruz said she just wanted to make up for her bad start and needed to step up to the challenge of sustaining their rise in the Reinforced led by Marina Tushova.
MANILA, Philippines — After an exodus at Chery Tiggo, Ara Galang led the team’s collective effort to eke out a come-from-behind win over the gritty Capital1 and jumpstart their 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
The Crossovers were pushed to their limits right at the start of their post-Eya Laure era as they also missed key members Mylene Paat, Jen Nierva, and Jas Nabor leaving an undermanned team, which also lost EJ Laure and Buding Duremdes.
But Galang and the Crossovers stuck to their collective effort to fight back from a 1-2 deficit before surviving the Solar Spikers, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 15-11, on Tuesday at Philsports Arena.
PLDT was left wounded after a controversial exit in the PVL Reinforced Conference.
But the High Speed Hitters will not wallow on what happened; they would rather rise from the ashes of that disappointing finish and continue striving to be better in this All-Filipino Conference.
“In our sessions with a sports psychologist [we learned that] it can’t be the main focus [for the rest of our lives],” coach Rald Ricafort said in Filipino, referring to a controversial defeat to Akari that capped the team’s previous season.
