The series plunges viewers into the perilous realm of Basgiath War College, a setting within the fictional nation of Navarre. Violet Sorrengail, a twenty-year-old character, initially plans to follow her late father’s path as a Scribe, dedicating herself to historical records in the Archives. However, her mother, General Lilith Sorrengail, redirects her destiny, forcing Violet to join the demanding dragon rider quadrant. This decision throws her into a world where candidates must bond with dragons or face death, highlighting the college’s stark rule: ‘graduate or die.’
Within this brutal environment, Violet encounters Xaden Riorson, a cadet known for his mysterious demeanor and shadow-wielding abilities. Xaden is also a descendant of a rebellious faction within Navarre, creating a complex dynamic with Violet, particularly as their relationship in the books evolves from adversaries to romantic interests.
