PLDT avoided an upset by finishing strong en route to a 25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22 triumph against Cignal in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Savi Davison punched in 24 points from 22 attacks and two blocks in a performance highlighted also by 12 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions to help the High Speed Hitters to bounce back from a previous loss to Choco Mucho.

“We’re just happy to grab another win in our bracket and to just keep competing and finally have some motivation going into our next games so hopefully we continue,” Davison said.

Kath Arado caught 16 excellent digs and Kiesha Bedonia had 10 excellent receptions.
The HD Spikers fought back despite being two sets down and kept in step in the third frame with PLDT before taking the set for themselves.
But PLDT had no plans of giving more opportunities for a comeback and scored nine straight points, 16-6—a lead that opened a window for Kim Kianna Dy’s long-awaited debut after a long road to recovery from knee injury since July 20, 2023 when she was still with defunct F2 Logistics.
She signed with the High Speed Hitters in January 2024 after the disbandment of the Cargo Movers.
“Super excited [to return].I haven’t played the game for more than a year now and to be with new teammates,” Dy said.
But that changed the momentum and allowed Cignal to cut the deficit slowly, 21-19, before Baron and Davison decided enough was enough.
It was only the second loss of the HD Spikers in seven games as Vanie Gandler’s 22 points went down the drain. Jackie Acuña and Ishie Lalongisip also finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Lalongisip was also present on the defense with 14 excellent digs, Gel Cayuna had 14 excellent sets and Dawn Macandili-Catindig had 19 excellent digs.
Cignal has another tough assignment with Creamline up next on Feb. 1 while PLDT looks to keep the momentum going against Farm Fresh on Feb. 4, still at PhilSports Arena.
