After an action-packed May with a bunch of Star Wars stuff, it looks like Disney+ is basically taking June off. There are only six new pieces of content coming to the streaming service this month, the lowest in its history. That said, there’s still definitely stuff worth watching, including the latest Marvel series and more. Here are our picks for the best of the month on Disney+.
Ocean With David Attenborough (June 8)
The OG of nature documentaries is back with a new feature film, this one exploring the rich and mysterious animal life below the surface of the sea. Using cutting-edge camera technology, the film takes us through coral reefs, kelp forests and other underwater environments, while also wrestling with what human civilization is doing to this fragile but vital biome. If you’re worried about Earth’s future, this will give you both information and hope.
Frozen: The Hit Broadway Musical (June 20)
Disney’s found great success transforming their animated features into Broadway shows, with productions like The Lion King making bank and getting critical raves and awards. Frozen has done just as well, and if you haven’t been able to shell out the cash to see it performed live, this professionally filmed performance of the London West End production is just what the doctor ordered. Starring Samantha Barks as Elsa, it’s a wildly entertaining take on the source material.
Ironheart (June 24)
It seems wild that there’s been basically zero hype around Marvel’s latest Disney+ series. Ironheart, following the adventures of Riri Williams after the last Black Panther movie. It’s also the final installment in “Phase Five” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That’s… a lot of phases. The series, which runs six episodes with the first three on the 24th and the next three a week later, has Williams facing off with Parker Robbins, a street criminal who stumbles into supernatural powers and reinvents himself as the Hood.
