A 7-year-old girl who had told her parents of “a man under the bed” twice in recent weeks came to them early Friday with another report — and this time they found him there.
A sheriff’s deputy was called to the home in Morgan, Utah, around 4:40 a.m. Aug. 26, and arrived to find the girl’s father struggling with a man dressed in black, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The father said he had found the man — a stranger to everyone in the house — under the girl’s bed.
The parents said that it was the third time in two weeks that the child had spoken of a black-clad intruder under her bed. The first time, she told them, he reached up and touched her buttocks; the second time he didn’t touch her but interacted with her while holding one of her stuffed animals. But, her parents said, the girl indicated she may have dreamed or imagined the encounters, sheriff’s Sgt. Craig Tillet told the Ogden Standard-Examiner.
After being discovered Friday, the intruder tried to flee; the father grabbed him, and the pair fell down the stairs, the sheriff’s report said.
In investigating the home after the arrest, the deputy found an open window with a missing screen, the Gephardt Daily said, quoting the probable cause affidavit. The house next door also had a window missing a screen; another young girl lives there.
The man, 25, was being held in Weber County Jail on suspicion of aggravated burglary, aggravated sexual abuse of a child and two counts of burglary of a dwelling, plus misdemeanor intoxication.
High school records online indicate the suspect is a 2015 graduate of Morgan High School. The city of about 2,500 people is in an agricultural area 20 miles southeast of Ogden, Utah.
