With a little over seven weeks until Christmas, Apple announced the return period for its products is being extended until Jan. 8.
From today until Dec. 25, items purchased through Apple’s online store can be returned up to Jan. 8, 2023. This is in contrast to Apple’s standard return policy which only allows 14 days for a product to be returned.
Apple explains in its Holiday Return Policy(Opens in a new window) description that:
“Please note that all other terms and conditions provided in the Apple Online Store Sales and Refunds Policy are still applicable with respect to such items purchased. Items purchased by carrier financing are not eligible for extended returns and are subject to the Standard Return Policy. All purchases made after December 25, 2022 are subject to the Standard Return Policy.”
The vast majority of Apple products are covered by the extended return period, but there are a few exceptions. Opened software, electronic software downloads, Apple gift cards, developer products, and print products aren’t covered. Software can be returned as long as it hasn’t been installed or opened if it contains a printed software license.

By extending the return period, Apple is clearly hoping to build confidence and entice more people to buy Apple products to wrap and put under the tree this Christmas. And let’s face it, the chances of someone being upset they received an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook as a present is going to be quite low, so those early January returns should be few and far between.
