Apple Fitness+ to Add Kickboxing, Beyoncé Workouts

Apple has announced(Opens in a new window) a slew of new Fitness+ content starting Jan. 9 including Kickboxing, a new meditation for sleep program, and seven new workouts that feature tracks from Beyoncé’s latest album, Renaissance.

Kickboxing will be added as a new total-body cardio workout type, with each workout consisting of a distinct round of moves followed by one final round, which will be a combination of all the moves users have learned in one “all-out” one-minute interval. Users will not need equipment and they can select workouts from 10, 20, and 30 minutes long.

Three new trainers are set to join the fitness app too: They include Muay Thai fighter Nez Dally who will lead Kickboxing workouts, HIIT trainer Brian Cochrane and Strength trainer Jenn Lau.

Starting Jan 9, Fitness+ subscribers will be able to select from seven workouts that feature Beyoncé’s music. They are Cycling, Dance, HIIT, Pilates, Strength, Treadmill, and Yoga.

Apple said the energy and theme in each Beyoncé soundtracked workout is “inspired” by her album Renaissance’s “notion of rediscovering what makes individuals unique and powerful.”

If Beyoncé isn’t precisely to your taste, don’t fret: Fitness+ will add workouts featuring music from the Foo Fighters on Jan 16, and Bad Bunny soundtracked workouts will drop on the platform a week later on Jan 23.

Alongside the pop music and fast-paced workouts, the fitness app will roll out a new meditation theme on Jan 9, its’ tenth, called Sleep. Apple says that new sleep meditations will be added “every week” and that its new Meditations for Sleep program consists of “four 20-minute mediations” that finish with “five minutes of relaxing music.”

The meditations, the company said, can be done in “any order at any time”,  and each mediation uses different techniques to help users rest.

For users who want to walk more often, Fitness+ is adding new episodes that feature audio from inspiring public figures to its Time to Walk series. The first drop of new content on 9 Jan will be with actor Jamie Lee Curtis.

Curtis, Apple says, will reflect on the “importance of embracing life’s most unexpected moments, the transformative power of serving others in need, and how the death of a beloved public figure led her to a daily ritual of self-reflection.”

Each week new content from public figures ranging from talk show host Amber Ruffin, US figure skater Nathan Chen, and actor Jason Segel will be added to the Time to Walk series.

And finally, the app is set to introduce two new collections which are curated to help users go after their fitness goals. The first of the two, titled 6 Weeks to Restart Your Fitness, is designed to help users to build a new habit by working out every day and launches Jan 9. The second, Level Up Your Core Training, is released on Jan. 23.

The fitness subscription service, which costs users $9.99 per month, can be shared with up to five other family members.
