Arsenal vs. Liverpool live score, updates, highlights and lineups for massive Premier League clash

Arsenal will put their Premier League title prospects to another early test when they host Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have won seven and lost just one of their eight league matches in 2022/23 and the prospect of a first realistic title challenge since the days of Arsene Wenger is a tantalising one for fans.

Liverpool have endured a mixed start to the campaign, but victory here will move them to within eight points of Arsenal, having played one game less.

Arsenal vs Liverpool live updates, highlights from Premier League

75 mins until KO: Fifteen minutes until we find out the team news and you feel it’s Jurgen Klopp who faces the biggest calls given his team’s patchy form.

Does he stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation that showed improvement against Rangers, or return to the trusty 4-3-3 that has underpinned so much of Liverpool’s success under him?

95 mins until KO: One look at the Premier League table is enough to tell you that Arsenal are in pretty good form in the early stages of this season.

But did you know the Gunners have also won their last 11 home games in all competitions? Liverpool are up against it this afternoon.

120 mins until KO: Jurgen Klopp lavishing praise on an Arsenal side that is 11 points ahead of his team is surely not an occurrence anyone saw happening in October 2022, just five months after the Reds made a run at a quadruple.

Arsenal vs. Liverpool lineups

Defender Cedric Soares could still be out for Arsenal with a knock picked up during a training session, while midfielder Mohamed Elneny has been absent with a hamstring problem.

Winger Reiss Nelson returned to the matchday squad for the Europa League match at home to Bodo/Glimt on Thursday. Midfielder Emile Smith Rowe had surgery on a groin issue and will not return until December.

Arsenal predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Ramsdale (GK) — White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko — Vieira, Xhaka — Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli — Jesus

Arsenal subs (9): Lineups announced one hour prior to kickoff

Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson missed out on the 2-0 home win against Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday with a knee issue but defender Ibrahima Konate (knee) returned on the bench. Arthur Melo is also out with a muscle injury.

Four midfielders are unlikely to feature: Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to remain on the sidelines for some time through injury, while Curtis Jones and Kaide Gordon were also absent against Rangers.

Liverpool predicted lineup (4-3-3): Alisson (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas — Elliott, Henderson, Thiago — Salah, Jota, Diaz

Liverpool subs (9): Lineups announced one hour prior to kickoff

Arsenal vs. Liverpool betting odds

When Liverpool went through the gears to win 2-0 with two second-half goals at the Emirates Stadium in March, it took them a point behind City at the top of the table and earned them their fourth win in what’s been a five-match unbeaten run against Arsenal.

That explains why Arsenal are only narrow favourites to win despite their form and Liverpool’s failure to win in four attempts on the road so far this season, including a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Napoli last time out, and a goal-less draw at Everton in the Premier League, failing to pick up a victory since August.

The draw, which is placed as the outside result, would do little to help either side.
