Audi is aiming to make long car journeys less boring with the introduction of virtual reality entertainment provided by Holoride.
Available now for select Audi owners in Germany, passengers can tap into an always-in-motion virtual space to access what Holoride calls “elastic content”—games and apps that use real-time vehicle data to react to the user and the car they’re travelling in.
“Despite amazing advances in automotive technology over the last few decades, passenger experience and in-car entertainment has remained largely the same,” explained(Opens in a new window) Holoride CEO and co-founder Nils Wollny, “with the introduction of Holoride, we are not only elevating the stale experience; we are redefining how you spend your time on the go,” he continued.
Experiencing Holoride currently requires you live in Germany, own a compatible Audi vehicle (A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q6, Q7, Q8, e-tron, e-tron Sportback, e-tron GT), have €699 ($684) to spare, and a strong stomach.
While instances of motion sickness were “substantially reduced” by matching virtual steering, braking, and acceleration in the headset with real-life vehicle movement, not everyone is immune.
