Banned Modern Warfare II Player Shows Up at Activision Studio

A disgruntled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II player who was banned twice decided to visit an Activision studio in Austin, Texas unannounced to discuss the matter.

As PC Gamer reports(Opens in a new window), in a now deleted Reddit post(Opens in a new window), the player explained how a ban appeal had been denied on Oct. 28, so they decided to use a different email address and purchase a second copy of the game to play. On Oct. 29 a ban was imposed on that copy, too. In total, the player claims to have spent $140 on the game.

In the Reddit post the player explained what they did next:

“Today (10/31) I decided to go to the nearby Activision office in Austin, TX to attempt to speak with an employee due to the fact that it is impossible to speak to someone over the phone … I was met by a security guard in the parking lot at Activision who told me that I would not be able to speak with anybody.”

Nobody at the studio, beyond the security guard, had any direct interaction with the banned player. The incident is receiving a mixed response online with other people working in the games industry requesting gamers don’t do this(Opens in a new window) due to staff safety concerns. Responses to the Reddit post also seem to be split between thanking the player for trying to take action due to a lack of customer support, and those who view it as threatening behavior.

Clearly nobody should simply decide to visit a development studio to discuss a ban without first receiving permission to do so. Calling out terrible customer service online should be encouraged, as long as it is done without angry or threatening language/behavior. If it’s truly terrible then others will chime in and the online press will take notice and investigate.
