Bayern Munich vs. Inter live score, updates, highlights and lineups from UEFA Champions League match

For Bayern Munich it’s a chance at group-stage perfection, while Inter Milan will see it as an opportunity for revenge. Those are the stakes when the two powers meet in their Group C finale, having already qualified to the Round of 16 from the so-called ‘Group of Death’ also featuring FC Barcelona.

Winners of all five of their group matches so far, Bayern are guaranteed to advance as group winners and a top seed in the Round of 16 draw on Monday. One of those victories was a tidy 2-0 win on Inter’s home turf at the San Siro, with Leroy Sane proving the matchwinner.

That’s a result that second-place Inter will be seeking to avenge when they travel to the Allianz Arena five points behind Bayern. A victory and a draw against big-spending Barcelona were the decisive results that saw the Italian club mathematically clinch a spot in the knockout stage.

Both clubs promise to make some noise in the upcoming rounds of the competition with 2020 champions Bayern reaching the quarterfinals last season before suffering an upset at the hands of Villarreal. Inter, champions in 2010, bowed out in the Round of 16 of the same edition against eventual finalist Liverpool.

Bayern Munich vs. Inter live updates, highlights

57th minute: Raoul Bellanova has made some good runs forward for Inter down the right flank, but another probing cross fails to find a taker.

Half a chance for Sadio Mane at the other end, but Kingsley Coman’s pacey cross seems to bounce up off the pitch and the Senegal forward can only divert it over the top with his left foot.

52nd minute: Better from Inter, who work their way neatly into the Bayern box, but Roberto Gagliardini’s left-foot strike lacks power and it’s a comfortable save for Sven Ulreich.

49th minute: Bayern captain Joshua Kimmich is the latest player to be booked. A few players need to be wary now of avoiding suspensions for the round of 16.

47th minute: Inter have the ball in the net from Kristjan Asslani’s floated free-kick but several players are flagged offside and it won’t count.

We’re back underway. Alphonso Davies is on for Bayern.

HALF-TIME: Bayern Munich 1-0 Inter Milan

Halftime: Inter started well with Nicola Barella forcing Sven Ulriech into a good save before being denied a penalty when Sadio Mane diverted Barella’s drive away from his face with two hands.

The Nerazzurri had another good chance when Lautaro Martinez slid in at the far post to meet a Robin Gosens cross but couldn’t direct his effort on target.

Instead Martinez lost Benjamin Pavard at a corner and his downward header put Bayern ahead against the run of play.

Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman both might have extended the hosts’ lead but it remains 1-0 at the interval.

45th minute +2: Kingsley Coman is a constant menace to Inter every time he gets the ball now. This time the Frenchman unleashes a right-foot effort that Andre Onana has to beat away for another corner.

45th minute: Kingsley Coman cuts in from the right flank and tees up Marcel Sabitzer on the edge of the area, but his left-foot strike is deflected wide for a corner. The pressure builds…

43rd minute: Bayern searching for a second goal as the first half draws towards a close. Coman slips Noussair Mazraoui in down the right but again, Inter deal with the danger.

39th minute: Inter’s Robin Gosen joins Sabitzer in the book for a foul on Kingsley Coman. The free-kick is whipped in but Inter clear their lines.

37th minute: Bayern midfielder Marcel Sabitzer gets a yellow card for a late tackle and he will now miss their next Champions League match in the round of 16.

32nd minute: GOAL! Benjamin Pavard, left all alone at a corner, plants a header into the ground and across Andre Onana into the far corner. Against the run of play, Bayern are in front.

29th minute: Kingsley Coman advances into a dangerous position for Bayern but sells Sadio Mane short with his pass, and the chance is gone.

26th minute: CHANCE! Great ball over the top of the Bayern defence releases Robin Gosens down the left. His ball across the face of the box looks perfect for Lautaro Martinez, but the Argentine – stretching at the far post – puts it high and wide.

21st minute: Fullback Raoul Bellanova punches the ball away with his fist after a freekick is awarded to the visitors. Inter still seem frustrated at not being awarded what seemed a pretty blatant penalty earlier.

17th minute: Inter midfielder Robin Gosens takes a sore one to the back of the head in an aerial challenge and requires some treatment. Reports this week suggest the Germany international could leave the club in January over a lack of game time, but he’s in the thick of it tonight.

13th minute: Rhythmic chants of Bayern! Bayern! echoing around the Allianz Arena as Kingsley Coman lets fly with his left foot, but it’s an easy save for Inter keeper Andre Onana. The hosts are warming to their task.

NO PENALTY! Incredibly, after a lengthy delay and a look at the pitchside monitor, the referee decides that Sade Mane was protecting his face. Fair to say Bayern might have got away with one there.

8th minute: Chance for Inter at the other end as Nicolo Barella bends a right-foot shot towards the bottom right corner that Sven Ulreich beats away. From the corner, Barella unleashes a fierce volley that Sadio Mane appears to divert with his hands. We’ll go to VAR…

5th minute: Inviting free-kick for the hosts, 30 yards out and in a central area. Joshua Kimmich gets plenty behind it but it’s a comfortable save for Andre Onana.

2nd minute: Bayern work Sadio Mane into a good position down the left flank, but his intended pass for Marcel Sabitzer is too long and drifts out for a goal-kick.

We’re underway!

5 mins until KO: A reminder of where we are this evening as that famous Champions League music welcomes the two sides.

10 mins until KO: Bayern won the reverse fixture 2-0 at the San Siro back in early September, helped by a goal from Leroy Sane, who is missing tonight.

Since matchday one, they have gone to beat Barcelona 2-0 at home, Viktoria Plzen 5-0 at home and 4-2 away, before sealing top spot with a 3-0 win at Barcelona last week.

Inter also did the double over Czech side Viktoria, 2-0 away and 4-0 at home last week, following a 1-0 home win over Barcelona and a 3-3 draw at the Nou Camp.

30 mins until KO: Bayern, who have won the last 10 Bundesliga titles, have not been quite as dominant domestically so far this season. They have only won seven of their opening 12 games in the Bundesliga and trail surprise leaders FC Union Berlin by a point, but come into this match on the back of thrashing Mainz 6-2 on Saturday.

Inter are currently sixth in Italy’s Serie A – eight points adrift of leaders Napoli but only three points off second place – but are also in good form. A 3-0 win over Sampdoria on Saturday was their fourth straight league win, extending their unbeaten run overall to seven matches.

60 mins until KO: The teams are in.

Bayern’s top scorer Sadio Mane, with 11 goals so far this season including three in the Champions League, starts with Kingsley Coman and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting joining him in attack, Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller among those missing out through injury.

Lautaro Martinez will captain Inter, joining fellow Argentine Joaquin Correa in attack with Edin Dzeko on the bench and Romelu Lukaku injured.

90 mins until KO: This group may already have been decided, but Julian Nagelsmann’s side are aiming to extend an unbeaten run in the Champions League group stages of 33 matches, stretching back more than five years.

Since Bayern’s last defeat at this stage – 3-0 at Paris Saint-Germain in September 2017, they have won 30 and drawn three group games. Only Ajax – twice, in 2018-19 – and Atletico Madrid, in 2020-21, have avoided defeat in a group-stage encounter with the German giants.

2 hrs until KO: Inter guaranteed their place in the next round by beating Viktoria Plzen on matchday five, but they cannot catch group leaders Bayern, who are five points clear at the top.

2 hrs 30 mins until KO: Can Bayern Munich make it a perfect six wins from six in the ‘Group of Death’? Will Inter avenge their loss at San Siro? Stick with us to find out.

Bayern vs Inter prediction, betting odds

While Bayern haven’t had it all their way in the German top-flight Bundesliga this season (second place after 12 matchdays), their Champions League form makes Julian Nagelsmann’s team heavy favourites to finish on a win despite all the key player absences.

Punters might see value in backing Inter to bring something back from Bavaria: Simone Inzaghi’s side would have won their seventh straight road match in the competition had it not been for Robert Lewandowski’s 92nd-minute equalizer in their most recent Champions League away game.

Prediction: Bayern Munich 1, Inter Milan 1
