Blizzard’s $97 Diablo IV Limited Collector’s Box Doesn’t Include the Game

Blizzard is offering a Diablo IV Limited Collector’s Box(Opens in a new window) containing a number of highly-desirable items for Diablo fans, but one key item is missing: a copy of the game.

The Collector’s Box costs $97 and contains the following items:

  • (Electric) Candle of Creation

  • Occult Mousepad

  • Cloth Map of Sanctuary

  • Pin of the Horadrim

  • Diablo IV Collector’s Edition Art Book

  • Matted Fine Art Prints (x2)

If you want a copy of the game as well, which of course you do if you’re buying the Collector’s Box, then brace yourself for the price of purchasing both.

Blizzard is offering three editions of the game(Opens in a new window): Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Ultimate, all of which will become available in June 2023 but are already up for pre-order. The Standard Edition gets you the game, open beta early access, a Light Bearer Mount, Diablo III Inarius Wings and Inarius Murloc Pet, World of Warcraft Amalgam of Rage Mount, and Diablo Immortal Umber Winged Darkness Cosmetics Set. It costs $69.99, taking the price up to nearly $167 with the Collector’s Box.

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes everything in Standard, but adds up to four days of early access to the game, a Temptation Mount, Hellborn Carapace Mount Armor, and a Premium Seasonal Battle Pass unlock. It costs $89.99, taking the combined cost with the Box up to nearly $187.

Finally, there’s the Ultimate Edition, which contains everything in Digital Deluxe, but swaps the Premium for an Accelerated Seasonal Battle Pass unlock with 20 Tier Skips and cosmetic. There’s also a Wings of the Creator emote to enjoy. And the price? $99.99, so a nearly $200 spend if you want the Collector’s Box, too.

By not including a copy of the game, Blizzard is allowing gamers to choose which edition of the game they want, but as all the extra content is digital, why not just include the standard edition of the game and offer the rest as a premium add-on?
