Bride fuming over guest’s ‘cheeky’ accommodation demand ahead of wedding

Planning a wedding can be a huge task with a mix of families and friends meaning a lot of organisation is needed, so when one guest tries to bypass the planning, it can nearly the throw the entire event upside down

A soon-to-be bride is fuming with one of her wedding guests who attempted to bypass her and book their own accommodation at the venue, despite the intense planning which has already gone into the big day. The woman took to the ‘Am I Being Unreasonable’ forum on Mumsnet to explain that she is getting married soon in a place that used to be a holiday camp where there is now on-site accommodation for wedding guests which is included in the package.

The soon-to-be bride explained: “The accommodation caters for less than half of the people coming to the wedding. So obviously we’ve tried to fit people in the best we can i.e not booking a family of 2-3-4 in a 6 or 8 person place.

“The places range from cottages to static caravans, all very modern and lovely.”

For months now, the woman has been painstakingly trying to figure out who is going to stay where in an attempt to cater for all of her guests at her big day.

But all of the planning has left one family with a little less than they hoped for, and they are unimpressed.

“This means a certain family on my side will be in one of the larger static caravans,” explained the author.

“They’re not happy about this and asked for a lodge or cottage. I said we could because they don’t sleep enough people and putting two between them would mean taking off two families/groups just to accommodate the one family.”

In return, the certain family have decided to look elsewhere for accommodation and were given recommendations.

However, in recent days the happy couple have heard from the venue as somebody has tried to book the accommodation through them, instead of through the bride and groom.

“I asked for a name so I can let them know to sort it through us,” she said.

“You’ve guessed it. Said unhappy family have rang the venue to try and book the accommodation I’ve told them isn’t available to them because it means other people miss out.”

Initially, the bride-to-be saw the funny side of this but soon felt deeply annoyed that this family had tried to bypass her and book directly with the venue, which could have put other guests accommodation at risk.

“Thankfully the venue didn’t allow them to book but I’d they had it would have meant all the accommodation plans I’ve drawn up would be ruined and it’s taken me weeks to sort it out,” she said.

Many have been quick to side with the happy couple with one person commenting: “Your relative is overstepping. You’ve explained the situation and they’d rather let somebody else miss out than just sleep somewhere slightly different themselves.”

While another penned: “I would just message them giving them a deadline to confirm if they’ll be using the accommodation offered or you’ll give it to someone else.”
