A bride has banned her own sister from her wedding after seeing homophobic messages she had been sending on a group chat behind the bride’s back. The soon-to-be married woman took to Reddit to explain that she has two sisters and had always got on well with them both despite living in a religious family where some had initially not accepted her sexuality.
In the post, she stated: ” many of my family members eventually grew supportive once realizing I wouldn’t change. I’ve had to cut relations with a few cousins or aunts because of their constant frustration to our relationship, but my central family life with my parents and two sisters has always been fine.”

In late September she is due to get married to her partner and had asked one of her sisters to be her Maid of Honour.
However, in recent days her other sister came to see the bride and showed her messages from a group chat which includes both her sisters and some wider friends from university days.
“My Maid of Honour had been chatting between her group chat saying this wedding concept was stupid. The messages started off as plain jokes but eventually got worse calling me and my partner ‘sinners’,” she explained.
She continued by saying the so-called jokes even got worse with some use of the ‘f-word’ to describe her sister’s same-sex relationship.
“She said jokes like “This generation’s become too accepting” or (quoted) “I’m the only one in my family who knows what’s right anymore,” explained the bride.
On reading this, the bride immediately informed her sister that she was no longer invited to the wedding and would not be able to come.
“She was saying I overreacted because what happened in HER group chat is HER business only, and she never even said anything to me,” said the bride.
However, this decision has split her family with her mum suggesting she has slightly overreacted but her dad and other sister both feel this was the right choice to make.
In response, many have jumped to the side of the bride and say her sister is completely in the wrong.
One Redditor wrote: “Gay woman here with sisters. If one of my sisters did this, I would immediately go no contact. I would say something to the effect of, “It is clear that this is what you really think of me, and I have no room for that in my life.”
While another wrote: ” Why would anyone want someone at their wedding who you knew was not only against it, but was against it to the extent that they also wished eternal damnation on the people getting married! My guess is that her presence will not be missed.”
