As exciting as getting ready for your wedding may be, this can also be one of the most stressful days of your life and not one where you can afford to have major delays. One new bride says she was recently left exasperated after her mum and bridesmaids rolled up two hours late for the bridal make-up appointment, for ‘no reason’, and wasn’t happy about her dad’s response.
The newlywed woman is a self-professed ‘preparation-freak’, so much so that she made each family unit a bound and laminated book with pictures and names, plus a schedule. The make-up appointment had been booked for 11 am, a fact she’d made clear to her mum and bridesmaids.
Unfortunately, the bridal party ended up arriving well after noon ‘undressed, and wanting to get made up’. The 32-year-old bride was handed a late fee of £20.70 for every frustrating 15 minutes the make-up artist had ‘sat around waiting for another face to put makeup on’, adding up to around £165. Needless to say, she was livid.

After venting to her dad about it, the woman, who feels she ‘was always the least favourite’ of his three daughters, ending up ‘losing it’ completely after hearing his dismissive reaction.
Taking to Reddit, where she goes by the username u/lj300, the fed-up bride wrote: “I was complaining to my dad a little later about how hurt I was to be alone getting ready and to add insult to injury it was expensive. He said, ‘it’s just money’.
“That’s where I lost it a little and yelled at him ‘it’s not about money, it’s my wedding day’ and then I went outside to get some air because I didn’t want to ruin my makeup.
“Nobody offered to pay the late fee or apologized for leaving me alone. My dad sent me a message about how I’m really immature and embarrassing and should never have raised my voice where the venue staff could hear.”
Although hurt by her family’s behaviour, particularly as they made sure to arrive on time for both her sisters’ weddings, she’s now wondering whether she was in the wrong for yelling at her dad over his remark.
One person commented: “I was all set to be judgmental of some out-of-control bridezilla, but that’s clearly not the case here. Your family disrespected you greatly.
“The only thing where you might have done a better job was in targeting your rage. Sounds like your dad got the worst of it, but it also sounds like he was there on time. Your mum and bridesmaids deserved to be called out. Who the hell is two hours late for a wedding?”
Another advised: “You should have dismissed the makeup team at the prearranged time and when the family showed late simply told them they were on their own. They were intentionally rude and dismissive of your schedule. Send your dad a bill for the extra.”
