Despite the scrutiny, WBC heavyweight king Tyson Fury insists that his third go-round with British warhorse Derek Chisora will be worth the wait. The pair will collide at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on December 3 before an estimated crowd of 65,000 fans.
In the first two encounters, Fury imposed his boxing skills on Chisora. In their British title bout, in July 2011, “The Gypsy King” thwarted most of Chisora’s attempts to take the action to the inside and won clearly on points. In the rematch, which took place in November 2014, Chisora was befuddled by Fury’s switch to the southpaw stance and succumbed to a 10th-round stoppage.
That two-fight review doesn’t inspire much positivity for fight three if you’re a fan of Derek “War” Chisora. However, Fury has revealed that he’s planning to stand in front of the challenger and trade punch for punch.
“Let’s give the fans what they want,” Fury told Chisora at a public workout this week. “Let’s stand in the middle of the ring and batter the f___ out of each other.”
“You want that?” responded Chisora.
“Yes, let’s do it!” said the champion.
Is this subterfuge from the Manchester man? It could be, but Fury, under the tutelage of American trainer Sugar Hill Steward, has been a much more aggressive fighter in recent years. In his three most recent outings, Fury has only engaged forward gears, and that’s led to stoppage wins over Deontay Wilder (TKO 7, KO 11) and Dillian Whyte (KO 6).
Chisora will be hoping that Fury is true to his word because the hard-hitting challenger readily admits that a knockout is his only chance of victory.
