Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Andre Baccellia left Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans on a stretcher after a neck injury resulting from a hit on a kickoff return.
Baccellia showed movement in his feet as medical trainers tended to him on the field. They placed him on a stretcher and immobilized his head and neck. Baccellia gave a thumbs up as he was carted off the field on the stretcher.
The Cardinals later announced to reporters that Baccellia was being transported to a Houston hospital for evaluation and that he had demonstrated movement in all of his extremities. The precise nature of the injury wasn’t initially clear.

Baccellia sustained the injury while returning a kick late in the second quarter. A pile of Texans defenders landed on top of him after a tackle, and it wasn’t clear from game video what caused Baccellia’s injury.
Baccellia’s Cardinals teammates left the sideline to surround him on the field as trainers tended to him.
A third-season pro with the Cardinals, Baccellia works primarily on special teams.
