Cardinals’ J.J. Watt has great mic’d up reaction to Kyler Murray’s epic 2-point scramble: ‘One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen’

Kyler Murray made one of the most incredible plays of the early 2022 NFL season against the Raiders in Week 2. The Cardinals quarterback helped his team succeed on a 2-point conversion to cut Las Vegas’ lead to 10 with 8:13 left in the contest.

The play looked like it had no chance at first. Murray was under immediate pressure and had to drop back as far as the 22-yard line to escape Las Vegas’ interior pass rush.

However, from there, Murray was able to find a running lane to the end-zone. He successfully evaded the Raiders defenders and was able to get into the end-zone, capping off a play that lasted 20.8 seconds.

NFL fans were in awe of Murray after the play, which brought the Cardinals within one score of the Raiders. But the amazement wasn’t limited to the fans.

Murray’s teammate J.J. Watt was watching the play unfold before him live. And while he, like Murray, saw the lane to the end-zone open up in Las Vegas’ defense, he still came away from the play impressed.

NFL Films captured Watt’s reaction to Murray’s scramble on the sideline. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year said only one word during the 20-second play, but afterward, he displayed his disbelief that the Cardinals had converted the try.

“That is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen,” Watt said to his teammates in the video. “I’ve never seen anything like that.”

Watt’s teammates were in agreement with the veteran. Tight end Trey McBride appeared to shout, “Man, that was crazy!” while greeting Watt on the sideline. Meanwhile, another Cardinal came by yelling, “Super Mario!” in response to Murray’s heroics.

Indeed, Murray’s play was crazy. Not only did it last 20.8 seconds, but he also scrambled 84.9 yards to convert the try. That marked the longest distance covered on a 2-point conversion since Next Gen Stats began tracking that in 2016.

Murray didn’t make much of the play after the game. The quarterback explained that he was just motivated to win in the second half and that’s what led to him making several big scrambles.

“I had to take over,” he said. “Had to do whatever it took to win. That was my mindset.”
