Cardinals’ Kyler Murray accuses Patrick Peterson of clout chasing after criticism: ‘You on some weird s—’

The chant of Kyler Murray naysayers grew that much louder on Wednesday.

The Cardinals’ star quarterback hasn’t had the most eye-popping season this year, particularly for a player slated to reel $46.1 million in average annual value. With 14 touchdowns to seven interceptions, Murray, 25, has graded in as an average hurler through the first 12 games of the season.

If he wants a vote of confidence, he should steer clear of former teammate Patrick Peterson. P2, appearing on his “All Things Covered” podcast alongside former NFL pro Bryant McFadden, laid into Murray.

“Kyler Murray don’t care about nobody but Kyler Murray,” Peterson said. “That’s just the matter of the fact.”

Murray took exception to Peterson’s comments and fired back at his former teammate on social media Wednesday.

Peterson has yet to respond to Murray’s tweet, but the former Cardinal said a lot more during his podcast. The veteran cornerback highlighted some of Murray’s perceived shortcomings, ones that even gave general manager Steve Keim pause when first offering the deal to the former Rookie of the Year.

“This the same guy that y’all put in his contract, ‘You got to study four hours a week,'” Peterson said. “But the system messed up? They requiring you to study for four hours, but the system messed up?”

Kingsbury’s playbook has drawn the ire of many over the past few months, with the former Texas Tech coach mired in the throes of a 4-8 campaign in Glendale.

However, Peterson indicated that the true problems may stem from Murray’s limitations, as well as the failings of general manager Steve Keim.

“[Kingsbury] will be [the scapegoat]” Peterson said. “And the crazy thing about it is the guy who hired him will still have a job.”

Keim put his faith in Murray over the offseason, rewarding him for two straight Pro Bowl seasons with a five-year, $230.5 million contract. Kingsbury also received a sizable extension in the summer, although his job security is said to be up in the air after Arizona’s disappointing showing so far.

Nevertheless, to Peterson and McFadden, Murray’s recent comments — he seemingly disavowed head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s system after the Cards’ 25-24 loss to the Chargers last week, saying, “Schematically, we were kind of f—ed” — were unbecoming of a franchise quarterback.

“It tells me he doesn’t care about his head coach,” McFadden said.

The Cards are currently on a bye week. They’ll reconvene on Monday, Dec. 12 for a clash with the Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

Peterson and Minnesota beat Murray and Arizona in Week 8, a game in which Murray tossed two interceptions. After the first one, Peterson famously trolled Murray with a “Call of Duty” celebration, motioning as if he was using a controller — something Murray is believed to know all too much about.
