After a captivating fortnight of action, the US Open men’s final between Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud will bring the tournament to a close on Sunday.
Both players are chasing their first Grand Slam title and the chance to become the new world number one following Daniil Medvedev’s early exit.
Alcaraz is the slight favourite to triumph but comes into the final having played five sets in his past three matches.
Ruud’s route to the decider has been much more routine and the Norwegian has only dropped two sets over the past week.

Second set – Alcaraz holds 2-2: After losing the first point, Alcaraz comfortably reels off the next three to make it 40-15. Alcaraz keeps hitting his first serve in. Hasn’t missed one this set. He gets the game.

Second set – Ruud holds 2-1: Alcaraz hits it long and then Ruud closes in at the net. 30-0. The Spaniard bats a return long. 40-0. And then the teen clubs a forehand wide. Easy hold for Ruud.
Second set – Alcaraz holds 1-1: Two quality serves gets the first two points for Alcaraz. And another great delivery makes it 40-0. Alcaraz holds to love.
Second set – Ruud holds 1-0: Ruud is immediately under pressure at 30-30. He goes behind Alcaraz to hit a great winner. 40-30. And he gets the crucial first hold.

First set – Ruud holds, Alcaraz leads 5-4: The Norway star races to a 30-0 lead. Alcaraz fails to return and it’s 40-0. Ruud gets there and will make Alcaraz serve out the first set.
First set – Alcaraz holds 5-3: Great sportsmanship by Ruud. He admits a ball bounced twice. It would have been his point. 15-0. An Alcaraz error sees it move to 15-15. Another mistake. 15-30. A look for Ruud here. Alcaraz smashes an ace. 30-30. His net coverage earns a game point. The teenager gets through a pressure moment to hold.

First set – Ruud holds, Alcaraz leads 4-3: Ruud crafts together two good points to go 30-0 up. Alcaraz just misses an angled return off the second serve. Ruud is forced to try a tweener but it balloons wide. He holds to 15 after the Spaniard nets.
First set – Alcaraz holds 4-2: The teenager wins an excellent net point to start. He blasts wide on the second. 15-15. Ruud slices back but Alcaraz comes in to swat another net winner. He moves so well. 30-15. A Ruud error makes it 40-15. Alcaraz nets. 40-30. An ace seals the game.

First set – Ruud holds, Alcaraz leads 3-2: The Norwegian races to 30-0 lead. He desperately needs a game here with the Spanish talent winning three in a row. Ruud holds to love. His first easy service game.
First set – Alcaraz holds 3-1: Alcaraz has definitely started the better player. His power game is up-and-running early. He gets 30-0 up but Ruud wins an extraordinary point with both players scrambling at the net. Alcaraz’s misses a drop shot. 30-30. And great court coverage earns Ruud a break-back point. But it’s saved. The world No.3 gets the job done.
First set – Alcaraz breaks 2-1: The Spaniard dazzles with quality tennis to get 0-40 up. Both players seem nervous on serve. Alcaraz blasts a forehand wide. 15-40. But the teen gets the break with Ruud error on the second chance.

First set – Alcaraz holds 1-1: Ruud executes a brilliant pass to make it 15-15. And then Alcaraz nets a running volley to give Ruud an early look at 15-30. Ruud smashes a return winner and it’s two break points. Alcaraz saves one with a quality serve. And Ruud nets the return for the second. Deuce. A huge serve and and a Ruud mistake and Alcaraz holds.
First set – Ruud holds 1-0: An unreturned serve gives Ruud the first point. Alcaraz goes wide for 30-0. He looks nervous early. Two Ruud errors gives the teenager his first points. 30-30. And just like that, Alcaraz has a break point. He hits it long and it’s deuce. Ruud double fault and it’s another chance for the Spaniard. But he nets. The Norwegian manages to hold. Tough game for him straight away.
