Carson Wentz injury update: Commanders QB will play through arm strain vs. Bears on ‘Thursday Night Football’

Carson Hurtz.

It’s been a “sticks and stones” week for Washington QB Carson Wentz, who took a few backhanded compliments from head coach Ron Rivera; While the emotional barbs are no big deal, entering Washington’s “Thursday Night Football” matchup vs. the Bears, the passer is dealing with a small physical issue that may come into play.

Wentz is dealing with an arm issue that won’t prevent him from playing on Thursday, but it’ll be something to watch as the Commanders look for their second win of the season.

The veteran passer, in his first year with the Commanders, has been serviceable so far this season, but hasn’t been able to shake the turnover bug: He’s thrown 10 touchdowns and 1,390 yards through five games, but has also thrown six interceptions in a 1-4 start to his Washington career.

Here’s the latest on Wentz’s injury entering “Thursday Night Football”:

Carson Wentz injury update

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Wentz is dealing with a biceps tendon strain that was suffered in the Commanders’ Week 5 matchup vs. Tennessee.

Pelissero says that Wentz is not 100 percent, but will still make the start vs. the Bears.

Complicating matters is the Commanders coming off a short week, limiting the recovery time Wentz had between Sunday and Thursday.

If Wentz struggles early, don’t be surprised to see a QB change: The No. 2 QB on the Washington depth chart is veteran Taylor Heinicke, who has taken meaningful snaps under Ron Rivera in recent years. No. 3 on the depth chart is rookie Sam Howell, who was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
