Birds Eye ‘s potato waffles are a staple in kitchens up and down the country. Whether you like to grill them for the perfect, crisp crunch, or toast and go, the frozen waffles are a family classic.
But one foodie may have just taken the treats to a whole other level, by using the potato snacks to create a bruschetta-style dish. And the creative choice left people stunned on TikTok, where he shared the recipe and finished product with gobsmacked viewers. However, not everyone could decide if they fancied the dish, which amazed some but proved less popular with other waffle lovers.

The recipe that got everyone talking was posted by @ollie_eats, a popular account which regularly shares cooking tips and recipe recommendations.
In the video, Ollie takes inspiration from Birds Eye UK’s TikTok account, which recommended enjoying the waffles served with cheese slices, tomatoes, and seasoning. Going one step further, Ollie wanted to try out the idea using roasted tomatoes and pizza mozzarella.
In the clip, the creator explains: “Birds Eye, we love you, but let me have a go. I saw this video on their account the other day and it is a great idea,” before adding that he thinks he can add “more love”.
He continues: “I got my cherry tomatoes. I seasoned them up with salt, pepper and garlic. I’ve given them a little bit of a roasting, then got some pizza mozzarella and melted them over some waffles.
“I seasoned it up more with some basil and a little bit of balsamic vinegar, and then I plated it up just like a bruschetta and then put a nice balsamic glaze over the top.
“Let me know what you think.”
Well, viewers loved the idea. “Looks unreal,” said one person. A second added: “THAT LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Several people also offered different recipe variations. “Green pesto on there instead of the basil,” read one recommendation.
But another said: “There’s not a sane person alive who wouldn’t go with beans first though.”
“It was hard not too (sic)”, the creator quipped.
And in response to a commenter who wrote: “I worry how soggy that made the waffle,” he replied: “Good question by using mozzarella for pizzas there’s no moisture so it keeps the waffle crispy.”
However, even then, not everyone was convinced by the recipe. “Too much cheese,” thought one commenter. Another said: “Would rather have bread.”
Meanwhile, others took a middle ground, praising both creations for different reasons. And one fan theorised: “I feel like for marketing purposes they have show the waffles in the finished product where as yours are hidden with cheese.”
“You are 100% right,” Ollie thought. He added: “I would of normally had to conform to a brief so it was really nice just having fun.”
