Chiefs’ new midfield logo, explained: Arrowhead Stadium gets a throwback makeover for 2022 season

It looks like a Throwback Thursday in Kansas City.

Arrowhead Stadium, the longtime home of the Chiefs, looks set to unveil some changes to its field on “Thursday Night Football” against the Chargers. That includes bringing back the original Arrowhead logo at midfield as well as the return of red end zones — which haven’t been seen at the stadium in years.

Rumors started to swirl online after the Chiefs posted a video on Twitter of the grounds crew hard at work painting the field.

The team is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its home stadium this year, and the altered midfield logo appears to be the same one that was used in Arrowhead’s debut season back in 1972.

In the same video, you can also see yellow lettering on the word “Chiefs” in the end zone. That would indicate a return to the red color scheme which hasn’t been seen for decades in Kansas City. The team seemingly confirmed this with a follow-up tweet the next day, once again showing the new paint job in the works.

The makeover will no doubt excite longtime Chiefs fans, as the franchise celebrates its home for the last five decades. The home team tends to deliver, too — the Chiefs’ 7-2 record at Arrowhead last season was tied with the Titans for the best home mark in the AFC.
