A frustrated resident ignited a huge row after leaving an anonymous note on a motorist’s car – telling them to park elsewhere in the seaside town, where parking is known to be a problem
If you are lucky enough to live by the seaside, you have to expect visitors from out of town in certain seasons. But while it is lovely to see people appreciating your area, the influx of cars is often less welcome.
It’s a problem the residents of Colwyn Bay, North Wales, know only too well. And one homeowner was left at their wit’s end when they spotted a local pull up on their road, adding to the parking issues. So they left an anonymous note, which was in turn blasted by the driver’s family, causing a huge row to erupt, as North Wales Live reports.

The sticky situation came about after a driver returned to his car to find a hand-written note from a frustrated resident, during a trip to the popular seaside town. “This is a residential road and not a car park,” the prickly note read.
Disgusted, the man’s mum then took to Facebook to blast its author and defend her “young lad”. Her son has parked in Colwyn Bay twice a week for the past four months, when heading to work, without causing any problems, she explained.
But her reasoning was not accepted by everyone, and the post sparked an explosive row.
On the one hand, residents sympathised with the note’s writer, who pointed out the driver had been “parking outside our homes on an extremely regular basis” without “visiting the homes on this street”.
One person wrote: “I’m not a note writer but I know how extremely annoying it is to get home with kids shopping etc and have to park miles from your own home due to other people parking.”
While a former resident revealed she had moved from the street because of the parking problems, and comments urged drivers to be considerate.
But many people also branded the complaint as “petty”, “childish” and “ignorant”, given the street in question sits outside of the town’s conservation area and there are no parking restrictions in place.
“Don’t you just hate these people who write anonymous letters?” read one comment.
“I’ve had more letters than parking tickets in the Bay, it’s funny,” claimed another.
And one message of support said: “If he’s not actually blocking the driveway then what’s the problem?”, presumably alluding to the fact it is legal park outside someone’s house, unless the vehicle is blocking a driveway or a wheel is over a dropped kerb, as the RAC website confirms.
It also points out: “Where no parking controls exist, drivers do not have an ‘automatic spot’ for parking outside their homes.”
But for the lad’s mum, who insists her son did not block residents’ homes, there’s another reason the letter should not have been sent.
“It is disturbing that whoever has put this note on his car is watching him and his whereabouts,” she said.
The parent added: “I would suggest that the person who wrote this note contacts the local council if they have a problem with the parking outside the property – instead of taking their frustration out on a young lad who just wants to work for a living and not cause mischief around the town like others his age.”
