For the second year in a row, “The Game” will be the biggest game of Rivalry Week, pitting No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Michigan in a showdown with ramifications not only for the Big Ten championship, but also for the College Football Playoff.
Both teams suffered scares in Week 12, with Michigan needing a last-second field goal against Illinois to win 19-17 and maintain its 11-0 record. Likewise, an Ohio State pick-six at the end of the game resulted in a 43-30 victory over Maryland, belying the fact the Terrapins could have won the game with a touchdown.
Neither team was at full strength in Week 12, with Michigan’s potential Heisman Trophy candidate Blake Corum suffering a scary knee injury just before halftime. That’s unlikely to change the hype around this rivalry, which features the teams’ first undefeated meeting since 2006.
The Buckeyes won that game 42-39 in Columbus — will history repeat itself, or will the Wolverines score their second consecutive victory in this series since 1999-2000? The latter of those seasons was also Michigan’s last victory in Columbus.

Elsewhere, No. 7 Alabama will finish its regular season in the Iron Bowl against Auburn, a game that cares little about records or rankings. The Tigers (5-6) need a victory to earn bowl eligibility, while the Crimson Tide (9-2) are likely playing only for a better bowl berth.
The last meeting of ranked opponents on Saturday will be between No. 15 Notre Dame and No. 6 USC. Marcus Freeman’s team has responded spectacularly from an 0-2 start against Ohio State and Marshall, but can he finish off his first regular season with a victory over the Trojans?
