Comcast Boosts Internet Speeds for Most Xfinity Subscribers

Comcast announced that it’s boosting the speed of most Xfinity internet plans this week, with over 20 million subscribers expected to benefit.

The speed increase is significant even on Xfinity’s cheaper plans, with the expected changes breaking down as follows:

  • Performance Starter/Connect from 50Mbps to 75Mbps

  • Performance/Connect More from 100Mbps to 200Mbps

  • Performance Pro/Fast from 300Mbps to 400Mbps

  • Blast/Superfast from 600Mbps to 800Mbps

  • Extreme Pro/Gigabit (formerly Ultrafast) from 900Mbps to 1Gbps

Those speed increases will be available to existing customers(Opens in a new window) as well as anyone new joining Xfinity and selecting one of these tiers.

Comcast is aiming to offer 2Gbps speeds before the end of 2025, while its customer base has expanded considerably over the past four years. Bill Connors, President of Xfinity, Comcast Cable said, “the number of devices connected in Xfinity households has skyrocketed 12X since 2018, and the need for fast, reliable, and secure Internet will continue to grow.”

Although anyone currently on Performance Starter/Connect will appreciate their speed increasing of 50%, Comcast may be forced to increase it by another 25Mbps soon. Back in July, FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel proposed raising the minimum broadband metric to 100Mbps for downloads and 25Mbps for uploads.
