Commuting By Plane Cheaper Than Renting: Part One

  • It’s true, at least in this case.

If commuting by plane is cheaper than renting, imagine the cost of that rent!

Commuting by plane isn’t common but for this woman, it’s worth it. Sophia Celentano went viral on TikTok after sharing her alternative workweek with her followers.

Commuting for Sophia is an entirely new level because she does it by plane. But according to her, it allows her to save a bunch of cash over renting on the expensive East Coast.

She spoke about why she does what she does, being commuting by plane to her internship every single week. Her “initial instinct” after getting the offer from Ogilvy was to commute to the offices as it was only mandatory once a week to physically be there.

She explained: “From my perspective, I didn’t really see it worth getting a really expensive place by the office if I was only needing to be there for eight hours of the week.” It makes sense if it’s really cheaper than renting.

“I guess I never really saw super-commuting as a daunting thing.” Most people would think that commuting by plane.

This is her morning routine:

“I do my makeup and hair first, put on my business casual outfit, and then I get my bag ready. I usually pack a lunch, some comfortable clothes, and then bring a coffee to go.”

She would leave the house about 4:30am and arrive to the airport around 5am.

“I have TSA PreCheck so the airport security line really only takes five to 10 minutes,” the woman continued. “I’m usually at my gate by around 5:15 am, which is exactly when boarding starts.”

As soon as her flight lands, she calls Uber ‘right away’ and makes it into the office by about 8:30 or 8:45am, just in time for her 9-5 workday.

As soon as her days wraps, Sophia simply hops on a plane straight back home and lands about 11pm in either Charleston, near her parents, or Richmond Virginia, where her boyfriend is. Seems crazy but it works for her, commuting by plane.

“The next day, because I work remote, I’m able to sleep in a bit so that helps a lot,” she added.

“I don’t have to wake up until around 8am to start work.” She admits it’s a tiresome commute but also that it’s definitely ‘worth it.’ It makes sense if it’s cheaper than renting.

For Sophia, this way of super-commuting is the way she’s able to keep a work-life balance. For the rest of the story, follow the link to read Commuting By Plane Cheaper Than Renting: Part Two.
