- Here are the rest of the strange trends you probably remember.
Did you see Do You Remember All Of These Strange Trends?: Part One? Read it first if you want to, because this is part two
Pokémon Go
“I’ll never forget the summer when Pokémon Go came out. Everybody and their grandparents were playing it. All the parks were full of people just talking and meeting each other. I hate to sound boomer-y, but it made me remember what life was like before smartphones, which is ironic, I guess, because an app made it happen. I wish more technology had the goal of getting people active and outside and interacting with others.”
This was one of the strangest trends and it’d be crazy to see it come back.
“WAAAZZZAAAAAP!”
You cannot NOT remember this trend. You still hear it now and again and it’s pretty funny. It may be one of the strangest trends but maybe it never completely died out? Definitely one of the strange trends.
The “I <3 Boobies!” Bands
These came out to support breast cancer but of course every guy bought them so he could constantly wear something that said, “I ? Boobies!” You know, because guys.
Jelly Shoes
Totally 90s and totally coming back as one of the strangest trends. Or is it? If it’s coming back as a trend, how strange can it really be?
“When I was a kid, every little girl’s ‘dress-up’ shoes were jellies, and they all wore them to church, even though they hurt. Only one movie I’ve ever seen has included jelly shoes.”
Ask Jeeves
This used to be such a huge thing. It’s kind of like googling, but with Jeeves. It is also reminiscent of WikiHow. Whereas now you are just googling every question you ever had and finding the answers that way.
LMFAO
“LMFAO may be a total train wreck of a music group, but they were also everywhere in 2011 to 2013. You couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing, ‘I’M SEXY AND I KNOW IT!’ played five times in the span of 30 minutes, and ‘PARTY ROCKERS IN THE HOUSE TONIGHT!’ was a line scream-sung at any nightclub.” This may have been a strange trend but this song is still fun every time it comes on the radio.
Pogs/Crazy Bones
These were all the stickers you could ever want. Designed or with words or sparkling. Unforgettable and one of the strange trends.
Hypercolor Clothing
Is this a trend you remember? It sounds slightly terrifying and absolutely disgusting.
“I was a huge nerd in elementary school, and I thought I was gonna be super cool when my mom bought me an off-brand Hypercolor shirt. I wore it to school, and one of the kids who bullied me realized that it would change colors if he spit on it. Then he showed lots of other people. It was the worst day of my elementary school life.”
The Cinnamon Challenge
I don’t even remember hearing about this but apparently, it was a thing. The challenge was to take a scoop of powdered cinnamon, put it into your mouth and hold it for ten seconds. Having never done the challenge, I cannot confirm but watching someone do it, it doesn’t look fun or comfortable. The lady I watched choked and said it was burning and she was drinking water and she kept pulling her bottom lip. So even if it sounds fun or someone challenges you to it, my suggestion would be, don’t do it. This is the most disturbing and looks like the worst of the strange trends.
Beanie Babies
These little stuffed toys were so famous and so valuable. There was once a divorce court picture that circled media showing a couple divvying up their beanie babies for the divorce.
Swatch Watches
These were awesome because you could match you watch to your clothes and if that wasn’t a 90s trend in itself, nothing was.
Butterfly Clips
Along with a lot of the strange trends from the 90s, butterfly clips are also coming back and it’s not that surprising. They’re used for corn row styles, just one strand pulled back or even to display a single braid. Matching your butterfly clips to your outfit was always the play and our favorite.
Cell Phone Walkie-Talkies
Remember when Motorola came out with those super chunky, yellow and black flip phones, that also worked as a walkie-talkie? If it was unflipped, you could hold a button on the side, total walk-talkie style, and talk like you were a kid again. They weren’t very clear and you couldn’t be very far away, from what I remember. But, then again, what do I know?
