Everton vs. Celtic live score, highlights and result from Sydney Super Cup match in Australia

Everton will begin their Sydney Super Cup campaign against Celtic at Accor Stadium on Sunday.

The Toffees arrived in Australia mid-week as they look to make the most of the World Cup break with another match against local team Western Sydney Wanderers looming on Wednesday.

Celtic lost their opening match of the friendly tournament 2-1 to Sydney FC on Thursday and will be eager to bounce back against Everton.

Jetlag seemed to be an issue for the Hoops in their last outing and Frank Lampard will be hoping his side can shake off any such complaints quickly.

The Sporting News is following Everton vs. Celtic live with score updates and highlights provided below.

Everton vs. Celtic live updates, highlights from Sydney Super Cup

HALFTIME: 0-0 at the break. Both teams had their chances with Celtic going closest when Jota hit the crossbar from a freekick. Everton happily sitting back at times with the two sides looking most dangerous while counter-attacking.

45+3 min: Celtic win a freekick right on the cusp of the halftime with Turnbull’s effort forcing a strong save.

45+1 min: Two minutes of injury-time to come here.

45th min: Jota goes for goal with a freekick from distance which Begovic read all the way. Moments later, Celtic win the ball back with Hatate firing a snapshot over the bar.

43rd min: Everton with a rare foray forward but a poor pass in the box sees Celtic break it up easily enough. In retreat, Patterson picks up the game’s first yellow card for the Toffees.

36th min: Hatate plays a brilliant ball forward to Kyogo who takes a touch but shoots right at Begovic.

33rd min: Everton break quickly through Gordon who shifts the ball out to Gray and his shot is blocked for a corner.

32nd min: Celtic win another freekick on the top of Everton’s box. O’Riley goes low with his effort but it can’t find catch out Begovic despite a number of deflections.

29th min: OFF THE POST! Jota tries his luck with a freekick and it’s got enough dip to hit the crossbar as Everton do just enough to clear the danger.

28th min: Celtic emerge from the short interval with a spring in their step and Everton are forced to concede a foul in a dangerous position.

24th min: Time for a drinks break here in Sydney with this game taking place in the afternoon and just a fortnight before Australia’s summer begins.

23rd min: Has been a fairly physical contest so far with Ralston in particular getting stuck in for Celtic. No such thing as a friendly…

19th min: Everton with a free header in the box from a corner but Tarkowski can’t keep his effort down.

15th min: Hatate finds himself with enough time to take a shot from distance but Everton manage to smother it in time.

11th min: Maupay is played through on Celtic’s goal but his attempted chip goes wide of a gaping goal.

9th min: Everton burst forward for the first time as Maupay finds Gray in the final third. The winger’s shot goes just wide after being blocked.

7th min: Celtic take a freekick quickly with Jota able to work a dangerous ball across Everton’s goal but no teammate is there to tap it home. Everton struggling to get out of their own half right now.

4th min: Turnbull gets the first notable shot away for Celtic but it’s far too high.

2nd min: Celtic on top early as they dominate possession of the ball. Everton looking happy to sit back and feel their way into this one.

Kickoff: We are underway at Accor Stadium!

5 mins from kickoff: Both teams are out in the pitch and the match shouldn’t be too far away. ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ is being played for Celtic and getting plenty of boos from Everton fans for obvious reasons…

10 mins from kickoff: Not long to go now until this game gets underway. These two sides also previously met in a friendly back in July 2006 with Celtic winning 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Aiden McGeady.

30 mins from kickoff: Fans of both sides are piling in now. Accor Stadium holds 80,000 and while we won’t get near that number, a fairly healthy turnout still looks likely.

One hour from kickoff: Everton have confirmed their starting side to take on Celtic with Frank Lampard naming a strong lineup that includes Neal Maupay and Michael Keane.

One hour and 10 mins from kickoff: This is how Celtic will lineup this afternoon against Everton with Joe Hart returning to the XI.

One hour and 30 mins from kickoff: Celtic lacked a cutting edge last time out against Sydney FC and they likely won’t get as many chances in front of goal today. The scene is set for an entertaining battle.

Two hours from kickoff: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News’ live coverage of Everton vs. Celtic. It’s a nice, sunny day here in Sydney with the afternoon kickoff set to see players running around in temperatures hovering around 26°C.

Everton vs. Celtic team news

Everton will look to give some younger players a chance in Sydney with Jordan Pickford, Conor Coady, Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye all missing through international duty.

Celtic will be without Aaron Mooy, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Daizen Maeda for this clash after all three earned World Cup callups. Joe Hart has travelled to Australia but was missing from the squad on Thursday night against Sydney FC.
